Styles
What We Offer
over 40 classes and a variety of styles
Our extensive programme includes over 40 weekly classes across a variety of styles and disciplines. Here’s just a taste of what you can choose from:
Street Dance & Choreography
Street Dance is umbrella term for social dance styles including Hip Hop, Breaking, House, Popping, Locking, Waacking, Chicago Footwork, Vogue, and more; all of which are taught at our GPDC Studios in Plymouth, after the foundations originated from the streets, parties and nightclubs in the USA.
Choreography is linked to the Street Dance styles, with these foundations often on show in Choreography classes we provide, similar in style to ‘L.A Hip Hop Choreography.
Commecrical
Commercial is a dance style that links directly to the Commercial Industry; primarily a choreography-based style that you will most commonly find in pop music videos and artist world tours.
Contemporary
Contemporary is an expressive style, uses story-telling and emotions, whilst developing strength, flexibility and emotional connections through movement.
It draws from many styles and techniques that are then slightly adapted to the individual style of contemporary. Contemporary involves both choreography elements as well as improvisation.
Jazz
Jazz is a technical style that involves performance skills and emotions, Traditionally to more upbeat music.
It is usually an energetic style that includes elements of control, strong technical skills and performance. You will commonly find it in musical theatre productions, Film/TV and live events such as concerts.
Musical Theatre
Our Musical Theatre sessions combine both dance and acting. It is an expressive style perfect for anyone wanting to perform on stage or in front of large audiences.
Musical Theatre is a style used to help tell a story, express a character or support a theme, and is often seen in the West-End, Broadway and musicals on stage or in films.
Ballet
Ballet is a fundamental style, which strengthens dancers’ technique, as well as creating a disciplined and focused mindset.
At GPDC we follow the prestigious ISTD syllabus.
Acting
At GPDC we provide regular acting classes for a wide range of ages and abilities, giving the opportunity to take LAMDA exams as well as perform/compete at the Speech and Drama Festivals.
Through our training, many of our acting students then go on to join our GP Agency, gaining work and castings for big TV shows, movies, theatre productions and achieving amazing results for their exams and drama awards.
Acro
Acro is a combination of strength training as well as flexibility training, often involving collaboration between students when working towards stunts or partner lifts. In these sessions, we train students to achieve tumbling skills and tricks.
Technique
This is a class focused on strengthening dancers abilities, involving jumps, turns, combinations as well as conditioning. Technique is important for all dancers wanting to take part in classical styles as it allows specific training on aspects within multiple styles.
Competitive Crews & Companies
For those looking to take their training to the next level, we offer competitive team rehearsals, as well as performance and competitive opportunities, for our award-winning crews and companies that represent GPDC at events and competitions nationwide and beyond.
